MidWeek ReStyle! ReMoisturize & Recycled BnC

May 17th, 2012

I have been in Fayetteville, NC since last week. When I arrived, my hair had been in a high bun protective style. Over the weekend, I visited my family in Wilmington. My cousin, who is 13, is attempting to transition for the 2nd time.  I wanted to show her an easy style that was pretty and low maintenance, so I showed her how I create my B-n-C style. I wore it for 4 days and then it rained and was extremely humid, so I decided to do a midweek restyle.

Hope you like the vid :)

Tips For Traveling Transitioners

May 10th, 2012

Traveling can wreak havoc on your wash routine; trust me!

Since Jan of this year, I’ve traveled at least two weeks consecutively out of each month, and during March I was on travel the entire month. Usually I travel within the states, but I was sent to Korea recently and there is a trip to Germany I am hoping to get assigned to me. In January 2013, there will also be a Hawaii trip to which I have been assigned…I’m really looking forward to that one!

Evolution of the Braid-N-Curl

I am loving my braid-N-curl result!

Though I am still hating my ends, I decided that my last braid out did not look great because I failed to properly roll the ends.

If you are transitioning and have 3″ or less relaxed ends remaining, I recommend:

  • Technique: Braid just past the line of demarcation and curl (flexi or perm rods) the rest
  • Smooth Ends: Use your fingers or rolling papers to ensure that the ends are smoothly around the rod
  • To “Set” the Curl: Use foam or setting lotion

Roots Only: Castor Oil Scalp Challenge

May 2nd, 2012

I was just inspired by a twitter user to put myself on a castor oil scalp challenge for the duration of my time transitioning.

For this challenge, each week I will oil and massage my scalp with castor oil. I hope to gain at least another inch by my June 30 BC.

I plan to experiment with the castor oil application by using this baby:

This product intended for reapplying color to the roots of hair but my idea is to use it to apply oil to my scalp. It would make the application less arduous and less messy. I’m going to pick one up today. I’ve seen it available on Amazon.com,  in walmart and CVS.

This Just In…

Relaxed hair market has decreased from over $100 million to $35 million.

I love it!

What I love more is that this number shows we have BUYING POWER!

Vegetable Glycerin: Round Two

May 1st, 2012

Glycerin

Do you use vegetable glycerin? Said to add moisture, it’s used in many hair and body products.

Recently, I decided to add vegetable glycerin to my moisturizing spray. Here were my thoughts:

Before I left, all I had time to do was re-moisturize my hair; I used a mixture of H2O, Aloe Vera Juice, a bit of Glycerin, and Rosemary, Orange, and Grapefruit EOs, which is a bit different then my usual re-moisturizing spray, which included Infusium 23 Leave-In conditioner. I will very likely continue to use this because after a week, my hair is STILL moisturized and feels like silk!

Kudos to Dads Styling Natural Hair!

Daddy Did a Great Job Styling Her Hair!

I had the pleasure of sitting next to this little girl and her father on my flight from Detroit (by way of Korea) back home. This little girl’s father amazed me as I watched him style his daughter’s hair! He had a brush, comb, AND conditioner (in a plastic baggie) and went to work on his daughter’s hair! It was an awesome sight! He meticulously parted, braided, and styled (with ponytails on the ends of each braid) her hair for about 30 minutes into the style you see in the picture, during our flight! Of course I got the low down on how he acquired his styling abilities:

How I’m Wearing My Hair In Korea

Protective Styling in Korea

Quick Post! Here in Dongducheon, Korea, it’s Monday 2:24 am…while back in the states, it’s Sunday, 1:24 pm…I’m up so I decided to post a few quick hair related thoughts :)

  • I’ve been exclusively protective styling because it’s convenient to just wake up and go, rather than to have to do my hair
  • Before I left, all I had time to do was re-moisturize my hair; I used a mixture of H2O, Aloe Vera Juice, a bit of Glycerin, and Rosemary, Orange, and Grapefruit EOs, which is a bit different then my usual re-moisturizing spray, which included Infusium 23 Leave-In conditioner. I will very likely continue to use this because after a week, my hair is STILL moisturized and feels like silk!

Transitioning: What’s Left of My Relaxer

I am hating my ends!

It’s Tuesday and I am hating these ends, even more so then when I complained during the P.Y.E challenge! As I watch the clock wind down to June 30th, I am continually tempted to grab the scissors and start cutting. Last night, I did a braid-n-curl to prepare for the day’s style. I used a mixture of H2O, Aloe Vera Juice, a bit of Glycerin, and Rosemary, Orange, and Grapefruit EOs to re-moisturize the strands, followed by my homemade shea butter cream to seal.  Usually I have about 16 braids, but last night I cut it down to about 10 medium sized braids and curled the ends using a perm rods. This morning when I took them out, I loved the chunkiness of the hair, but the ends disgusted me! It totally takes away from the style! If I weren’t so stubborn I’d move the BC date up.  This is another reason why protective styling works so well for me; I never have to see my ends! Out of sight, out of mind!

Recycled Style: Twist-N-Curl UpDo

April 6th, 2012

Happy Friday! This week I wore my hair in a twist-n-curl. My goal was to achieve at least 3 day hair and a restyle on day 4.

French Rolled the back and pushed up the front

Here’s what actually happened with the style:

  1. Monday and Tuesday: My hair looked great :)
  2. Wednesday and Thursday: By Wednesday I’d had enough sleeping pretty so I used an elastic headband to push my hair into a high curly crown
